The inspiration for writing music would originate at a young age as
the Darkest Of Winter would express, "I remember seeing the video of
Metallica’s One on MTV and the shot of Lars’ feet during the machine gun
section and my mind was blown! I woke my father up and said 'THATS WHAT I WANT TO DO!'"
Growing up, the artist would draw influence from their father
who was a guitarist for a popular Maryland band at the time,
and from his step-father who was a drummer and a sound engineer.
Taking advantage of this influence, they would spend much of
their time learning on a large Ludig kit as well as playing
their favorites songs such as every Metallica song available.
Approaching high school in the late 90's, the artist felt it better to avoid
joining bands due to the social intensity and instead purchase the necessary
equipment to begin making music themselves.
Having roots in the 90s - 2000s progressive metal era, they would also
draw inspiration later in their career from acts such as Chroma Key, OSI,
Porcupine Tree, and nods to Meshuggah and Dream Theatre.
In the early adventure of writing music, hearing cool riffs and likable
hooks was a focus but overtime, the focus shifted towards allowing the music
to take the mind through a creative journey.
A journey that would evolve and allow the artist to further explore their
vision and what they wanted to see for themselves, and their music, as the
days moved forward.
